IRON PIRATE
AWARDS
The Iron Pirate Award began when the three
athletes who started with the program in
late fall 2005 reached goal weights in the
Bench Press, Squat and Power Clean during
the winter of their senior year. Those three were
the Original Iron Pirates. Two went on to earn
scholarships to play Division I college football.
The Iron Pirate cadre has been growing rapidly, and now numbers more than 120 male and female athletes. Females have made up a growing proportion of the list since the Class of 2008 saw eight girls earn the designation (there are 13 so far in the Class of 2009, the most ever). So many athletes have made their goals, in fact, that different levels were created to reflect the growing success, and to give them additional targets to aim at. Athletes who reach the Bronze level receive an Iron Pirate T-Shirt. More awards are planned.
