IRON PIRATE
Strength & Conditioning
at Grand Haven H.S.
2008 saw a huge increase in the number of teams and athletes participating in the Iron Pirates Strength and Conditioning program—more than 400 athletes tested through the year and both the Boys and Girls set records for the number of Iron Pirate awards and the level of lifting. Nearly half of the boys achieved advanced Iron Pirate awards. Three went on to Division I football, one went on to swim at the D-I level and others went on to wrestle, play lacrosse and basketball. The Girls were equally well represented. Of the 8 Iron Pirates, seven went on to play a sport in college: two are playing basketball, three are playing volleyball, one is playing water polo and another softball.
The number of teams participating took of as well with Baseball, Boys and Girls Basketball, Football, Boys and Girls Cross Country, Ice Hockey, Tennis, Wrestling, Volleyball, Girls Swimming, Boys and Girls Water Polo, Girls Track, and Softball working out as teams; athletes from a number of other sports — skiing, tennis, and Boys Track — also used the Iron Pirate S&C program.
